Around the World

Around the World

“The Woods are lovely, dark and green, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.”

The quatrain of Robert Frost is symbolic. It speaks of life and its journey. It speaks about commitments, duties and responsibilities; about man and its connection to itself and the environment. It is soul searching and so is the desire to travel.

Traveling is like exploring facts out of a set of presumptions. It is scientific provided materialised in an orderly fashion. A travel plan must have an objective. It may be either for fun, expedition, entertainment and awareness or for exploring history, culture, artefacts, monuments, nature, people, fashion, business and market.

Whether it is Rome in Italy; Paris in France; Barcelona in Spain; London in UK; Amsterdam in Netherlands; Dublin in Ireland; Athens in Greece; Edinburgh in Scotland; Istanbul in Turkey; Milan in Italy; Independence Hall in Philadelphia and Alcatraz in California or Amadiya in Iraq; Esfahan in Iran; Baalbek in Lebanon; Jerusalem in Israel and Palestine; Dahab in Egypt; Manama in Behrain; Bethlehem in Palestine; Angkor Wat in Cambodia; Great Wall in China; Bagan in Myanmar; Phimai in Thailand; Vat Phou and Plain of Jars in Laos; Meenakshi Temple in Tamilnadu; erotic carvings at Khajuraho and Taj Mahal in India, one thing remains common in all and that is the presence of men, women and children of diverse and plural ethnicity.

One fills with joy to find smiling jovial faces around trying to communicate all about themselves during short communications at different places of one’s itinerary. They greet in their own styles while you try to reciprocate in their ways. Though it appears to be a trivial routine yet it is not so. You carry memories along which percolates deep down your subconscious and conveys its image to the collective consciousness of people around you whom you narrate your travelogue. A sense of curiosity and love thus amalgamates in the fibre of the society you inhabit. The more you travel the closer you are to humanity.

Traveling is happiness. It sends its angelic blessings to nurture your inner self for the love of glory that manifests within to start painting the canvas of your objectives for which you had planned your journey.

Traveling is the only genre of life where you keep on enjoying even when tired. There is no time constraint. You may travel in the middle of the night to enjoy the night life of the city of your choice or choose a dawn or dusk near some hilltop to enjoy sunrise or sunset in the horizon. This may happen either in the streets of Las Vegas in America or at Mount Batur in Bali.

The jungles of the Amazon, the pyramids in Egypt, the great Canyon in the US, the Alps through Switzerland, the beach at Kovalam, Thar desert in Jaisalmer, Pangong lake and magnetic hills at Ladakh are but a few places where you find yourself in unison with the mightiness of nature and sense the insignificant nothingness of Man in the vast expanse of creative diversity that Nature has thrown open in abundance. The list is too long. Only experience gives the feel. This feel becomes an ecstatic euphoria when traveling is planned with spouse or a friend. One and one make eleven is realised only as this juncture.

However, there are often moments of anxiety and morose too that shatter momentous and jubilant continuum of travellers when you find your wallet with necessary instruments of identity and monetary exchange missing. You have been pickpocketed somewhere and you are unable to locate where. You feel like an orphan; disintegrated and disgusted. The country to which you belong starts appearing to you as your mom who has abandoned you to punish for your childish naughty behaviour that you had exhibited when you were in the lap of your motherland a few days back prior to your journey.

All your deeds at the workplace and home flash reeling in your mind to make you repentant for laziness, lethargy, lies and alibis. You promise not to repeat them again once you are through this trouble. You resolve to be a good, truthful and considerate citizen.

The ever flashing news of rapes, murders, terrorist attacks and mass murders make travel a nightmare. You leave planning for a journey and lose the treasure that travel usually keeps in store for us.

Tension! Destruction!! Disaster!!!.......Why all this? Why do we always talk of destruction? Why do we always try our level best to indulge in power competition?....And all this reveals that we have lost the significance of the word ' We' .

The concept of 'We' makes us lead a corporate life where the strong can help the weak and the latter can make his own little contribution to social progress. The story of the blind and the lame is too well known to illustrate the idea of mutual co-operation when they crossed the road with the eyes of the lame and the feet of the bind, the latter carrying the former on his shoulders.

The above example gives a vivid picture of the fact that unity and cooperation strengthens individuality. Unity is more creative. The only condition it needs to flourish is the existence of sound individuals--- sound, not only with respect to money and strength but more so in their thinking and actions.

But the question arises, can we make everyone sound in thinking? The solution which apparently seems a hard nut to crack is easily got as soon as the phenomenon of well balanced and properly guided harmony characterizes the lives of individuals.

Reeds of piano when pressed and released in a particular guided way, produce melodious music. Thus we see that harmony can only be developed when the whole society is tied with a strong, elastic and unbreakable fibre of proper guidance and love. Luckily the human race in majority believes in the concept of humanity, social justice, good citizenship and supremacy of the All Intelligent, All Mighty, and Omniscient INFINITE whose Divine Love breaks all the barriers and reaches everyone of us in plenty.

Time is calling us to wake up and work more cooperatively, plunging ourselves into action for the uplift of humanity irrespective of caste, creed or nation keeping in mind the glory of the INFINITE and in this way attaining His blissful Love.

Let us (Wes) work like humble servants of the Supreme Father in working out the ideals of ' Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of Man'. This way lies peace and prosperity. The journey only then can be filled with happiness, bliss, pleasure, fun, knowledge and rewards.
